The
Greater China region consists of Republic of China,
Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, which has more a
population of more than 1.2 billion. Can you imagine
all the projects and possibilities or opportunities
that exist there? The trading
activities and project opportunities have raised the
demand for best-fitted project management
methodology and knowledge base. The project
management standards currently in used in Hong Kong
and Taiwan were dominated by PMI’s PMBOK; while
those of China and Macau were mainly influenced by
both PMI and IPMA. It is found, however that the
basic core areas covered by hose international
standards may not be enough for a professional
project manager to be effectively get around
locally. Enter IAPPM. , particularly for the areas
of local legal requirement, accounting practice,
customs which are referred as “external factors”
from other project management discipline.
The
objective of setting up the Greater China chapter of
IAPPM is to promote a common set of project
management practice amongst the region, as well as
focus to address the differences of the external
factors within the regions. It gives rise to a lot
of volunteer projects required to form the basis
during this formation phase, as follows:
Our China chapter President, Mr Tsan Fai. Ho was
born and raised in Hong Kong, China. He is an
educator, software engineer, fraud analyst, IT
auditor as well as project manager and entrepreneur
who has in-depth project experience and domain
knowledge in e-Commence, Travel, Enterprise Resource
Planning, Retail and Supply Chain Management. was a
member of the Verification and Review Committee of
PMI’s PMBOK 2004 and its Chinese version.
Currently,
the Greater China chapter is working on a number of
initiatives and actively seeking a stronger
membership base in it's region. "We are very
excited about our IAPPM presence here in the Far
East and herein lies great opportunity" states
